Kyleanne Hunter

Scholar, pilot, military veteran, activist, author, athlete, and survivor.

 

Kyleanne brings over 20 years of military and academic experience to Think Broader.

 

With years of professional experience in military leadership, political relations, and managing international research portfolios, Kyleanne had an unparrelled mix of practical and academic experience understanding the impact of gender bias.

 

Kyleanne was a Marine Corps Officer for over a decade, serving as an AH-1W “Super Cobra” attack pilot and Liaison Officer.  As a pilot, she deployed multiple times in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, earning seven strike flight medals.  As a liaison officer, she supported Congressional Delegations to over 40 countries.  She oversaw the Marines’ legislative strategy for the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and the initial integration of women into combat rolls.  Her academic work has been accepted to international conferences and multiple edited anthologies.  She is a contributer to the New York Times, War on the Rocks, and Political Violence at a Glance.  She has appeared on Al Jazeera, PBS News Hour, NPR, and many other radio and news outlets discussing gender and security related issues.

 

Kyleanne is a graduate of Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, and is currently completing her PhD at the University of Denver's Korbel School of International Studies.  She is also a Research Fellow at the Sie Cheou-Kang Center for International Security where she manages the Program on Nonviolent Action in Violent Conflicts for theCarnegie Corporation of New York.  She has been named a University Fellow for Inclusive Diversity.

 

In her spare time, Ky has beat the cancer odds. She also races mountain bike races and triathlons in Colorado.
