Paula brings over 20 years of military, academic, and non-profit leadership and consulting experience to Think Broader.

 

With professional experience in over 60 countries, Paula brings a breadth of knowledge of cross-cultural programming and training initiatives. Her travels have taken her to war zones, refugee camps, Bedouin communes, terrorist training sites, as well as Ivy League classrooms and corporate boardrooms. She has worked at the grass roots level with indigenous populations as well as with senior U.S. and foreign officials and the private sector in the U.S. and abroad.

 

Paula has received various awards and leadership opportunities. During her academic career, Paula was selected as a research associate at the Harvard Center for Public Leadership, as a Young Leader by the American Council on Germany and French America Foundation, a term member at the Council on Foreign Relations, a Harvard delegate to the Academy of Achievement, and a national finalist for the White House Fellowship. Paula has served in leadership positions and on the boards of Women in International Security, Institute for Defense and Business, AUSA-Europe, the All Veteran Group, Women Executives, Women's Impact Fund, and is an advisor to other organizations dedicated to defense, veterans, and women's empowerment.  She is also the co-founder of the Active Charlotte Alliance, a coalition dedicated to improving community physical and mental wellness rankings on the American Fitness Index.

 

Paula has published and spoken to diverse audiences around the globe. She has spoken to over 50 corporate leadership and academic groups; published articles, blogs, book chapters and a New York Times best-selling leadership book; and been a guest on CNN, Fox News, Fox and Friends, Imus, Hannity Show, Charlie Rose, ABC, BBC, NPR and other news outlets on security, veteran, organizational innovation, and gender-related issues.

 

Paula is also a competitive Olympic-distance triathlete and skier. With her husband Scott Broadwell, she is a parent of two young boys.

 

Paula is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, University of Denver, and Harvard University, and has studied at Kings College London and the University of Jordan.  Rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, she completed the Army’s Command and General Staff College and taught international relations at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
